Mulled Wine – Recipe

Mulled Wine - Recipe

There are certain flavors and smells that just scream cool weather to me. Cinnamon, clove, allspice. Add these into a warm drink, and it’s like the holidays in a cup. Now make that warm drink wine, and you’ve got the perfect cup to cozy up with.

Mulled Wine - Recipe

Seriously, have you tried mulled wine? Just the smell lets you know winter has arrived.

Oh wait, it’s still fall? Ooops. Well, then, you can file this away until the weather cools……or after steeping, you can let it cool and drink it as a cold, fall sangria. (!) I just blew your mind. You’re welcome.

Either way, make this. Make this now. Hot or cold. You’ll be happy you did.

Mulled Wine

Ingredients

  • 2 honey tangerines or clementines
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 6 whole allspice
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar or honey
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 1 bottle red wine such as cabernet sauvignon

Instructions

  1. Juice the tangerines (or clementines) then separate the peel from the pulp.
  2. In a small saucepan combine the tangerine juice and peel with the cinnamon, cloves, allspice, sugar/honey, and star anise.
  3. Add just enough wine to cover and bring to a boil.
  4. Lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. Add the rest of the wine and heat an additional 5 minutes or until just hot.
  6. Ladle into mugs and enjoy hot or allow to cool and enjoy as a fall sangria.
